Three years ago in September my friend, Ruth Adam, and me use to meet weekly at a place called the “Watershed.” It is a bookstore and a meeting place that is very “cool.” As always I talked about my passion for scrapbooking. “Wouldn’t it be great to have a group of women meet here once a month to share with each other, scrapbook, and have the opportunity to encourage each other through God’s Word?"  Thus Fellowship of Scrapbookers was born.

Throughout the three years we made friends, met anywhere from MaryJo’s home to the Lexington Presbyterian to our favorite place with so much character, the Watershed.

One of our founding principles has been that cropping would always be free. Thanks to the Watershed it always has been. We are moving into harder economic times and our dependence on God’s provision is becoming more evident as we try to continue our goal of providing a wonderful place to scrapbook and share our lives and memories.

I wish I had room to post everyone’s photo on my blog that has participated in Fellowship. I am thankful for all the charity crops that everyone jumps in and works so hard to participate and give. We have collected socks, toys, and now July 31st we will be collecting and making cards for Operation Write Home and our Heroes. Another important part of Fellowship is God’s Word. I have been and will always be thankful for Ruth’s devotions. The following devotion is from what we thought would be our last meeting of Fellowship. God has other plans.

Snapshots from God

As scrappers we love to take pictures and journal those special family moments. Our fifth grandchild, Steven Douglas, was born in January to our son Doug and his precious wife Jenn. Steven, who was named after his uncle Steven David, was born two months premature and a little bit bigger than a coke can. The Psalms tell us that “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” and little Steven’s ordained days began quite early. Despite the fact that Steven was attached to tubes and wires and isolated in an incubator, his Mom & Dad were lovingly snapping pictures and recording every moment of this little miracle.

There is an amazing snapshot of our Heavenly Father’s Son who was to come and “journaled” hundreds of years before He actually made His timely appearance on earth. It is recorded in Isaiah 53. “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” This passage in the Bible also describes us and why He was to send His Son. “We all, like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” The hardest picture to look at is the one that follows…”He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth”. Oh what grace and mercy has come when God gave His only Son Jesus who dies in our place that we may be forgiven and saved.

The beauty in this snapshot comes personally to me with the rest of the story that I began with. You see, our little grandson was named after our firstborn son whose ordained days didn’t start early, but ended early at the age of ten. I remember well the tubes and wires that were all around him but not enough to sustain his life. The beautiful news comes with the amazing snapshot “journaled” of what is to happen in the future for those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ. “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away”. Oh what a glorious day this is going to be when we see our Savior face to face and an incredible reunion with loved ones that we won’t need to record with a camera for the joy will last forever!!

Thank you, Fellowship, LPC, and Watershed for what has been nearly three years of absolute joy. I hope you will join us one Saturday to enjoy what I already know is truly a fun experience.
