My daughter asked me to make a special diaper cake for a good friend of her's. The theme for the baby shower was Mexican and being held at a Mexican restaurant. Finding bits and pieces to make this work was a challenge.
I looked for ribbon or fabric with that mix of colors that just said fiesta! I couldn't find it so we ended up buying a vinyl table cloth at Party City and cutting up strips using Fiskars Pinking Shears. I used three of the strips to wrap around each layer. I added American Crafts specialty ribbon, the red roses, around each layer. The fourth strip I sewed a basting stitch and created a ruffle for the edge.
I cut out the cactus using Core'dinations embossed paper from Cosmos Cricket. I sanded the embossed area and it looks like prickles on a cactus.
Tabitha found these little dolls of mommas with babies on their back. They are magnets. I added Basic Grey's magnets to the underside of the "ribbon" around the cake and just added the momma magnets.
The top is a beautiful mirrored frame that I attached a little baby. I used a Becky Higgins font and her "love" design that was a free download. It really turned out a lot of fun!
