12 Days of Home for the Holidays Welcomes Maggie Holmes

Maggie Holmes

One of our favorite holiday traditions is baking as a family. I can still remember making cookies and holiday candy with my mom and grandmother when I was young. I don't remember the toys I received those years or really much else about Christmas, but I do remember baking with them and enjoying that time we spent together. Not only was it fun to be in the kitchen with them cooking up our creations, but it was always such a special treat to sit down and enjoy the fruits of our labor when we were finished.

I want to create those same special memories with my own children so I make an effort to do a few activities each year that are centered around baking. We are not to the point yet where we make the same things each year because we are having fun trying out new and different recipes still. I know at some point we will have our collection of favorites and then we will continue that tradition of making our family favorites every holiday season!

Two years ago we tried a new yummy popcorn recipe and had so much fun together in the kitchen preparing each step. And then of course, the best part was at the end when we got to dig in and eat it up!!

Photo Tip of the Day
It’s OK to use bribery. I think any parent is guilty of this one every once and a while. I’m not afraid to admit that I’ve dangled a cookie in front of the camera. And believe me those smiles I got were genuine

the popcorn sounds delicious. Our tradition was for my daughter and I to make Christmas cookies. We'd box some up for Grandma Mary and for Uncle Henry. Then our family got to eat the rest. We don't do that any more. the old folks are gone and the kids don't want a lot of cookies around the house.
