12 Days of Home for the Holidays Welcomes Jenni Bowlin

Jenni Bowlin
After years of collecting everything vintage Christmas, I found myself with a large hoard – too large in fact that I felt it was shameful not to sell it or share it in some way.  That particularly year, 2011, I had signed up for a large Christmas show in town for the first time.  This forced me to evaluate my stash, trying to come up with some creative ideas to re-purpose all of my tiny Christmas treasures into something new.  This is when I made my first snowglobe – and I’ve been making them ever since.
The basics for each globe are always tiny trees (either bleached and dyed or swept with a wash of watered down glue and German glass glitter)
vintage cake toppers, bells, placecard holders, nativities, deer, candy holders and always an ironstone plate as a base.  Each year there is always a new twist (this year I have been playing with sliced wood bottoms and moss)
Just how I like it.  They have been a great success at the show each year.  There is nothing like putting time, effort and soul into something and having someone else appreciate it.  A sale is the ultimate reward!
but the final product is always clean and simple.

Making your own is easy.  Just gather a plate for the base, a glass dome (overturned candle holders work well for smaller versions), fake snow, a glue for slick surfaces and vintage content.  Glue your objects to the center of the plate, let dry, add some snow, and glue on glass dome.  It’s that easy!
I look forward to “snowglobe season” every year and hope to offer a class at our Vintagefest event next year.  In the meantime, I always offer several completed versions on my website, jbsmercantile.com every December 1st.  Can’t wait until the first?  Want to snag one for free? Follow me on Instagram (Instagram/jbowlin7) and leave a comment on my post today, (December 4th).  We will choose a number at random from the total number of comments to select the winner.  Good luck!

  36. Hey guys- I'm on the road but noticed that the "insert date here" note is still in the post as originally I didn't know the date I would be. So just to make things clear, you have to post a comment on my Instagram post for today, December 4th for a chance to win. I will announce the winner there. However, if you post a comment on my personal blog today, I will also chose a winner there as I know everyone doesn't do Instagram. Thanks for all of the sweet comments!
