Katrina Hunt
Hey everyone! I am Katrina Hunt from Paper, Scissors and Glue. When Debby asked me to do the 12 Days of Home for the Holidays I had to think about it. I always see all these traditions, festive parties and happenings going on. My holidays are not quite like that. But then I got to thinking, why not?! No one thing defines the perfect Christmas or holiday season, it’s what YOU make of it!
Three years ago, we lost my roomie’s mother in a car accident right
before Thanksgiving. Andree was like a mom to me also and she was the center of the holiday season. One Christmas she tried to teach me how to make pie crust her way. She said to me "Uhhh, I think you are done now" after I had beat the dough to pieces. She sat the container to the side and said it would be fine by morning. I still say to this day that she redid that pie crust and never told me!
So, one thing that we do around here is make Christmas cookies, which is definitely a tradition. But we have changed it up since we did the gingerbread house. At our local grocery store we found gingerbread people decorating kits in their bakery section. They come with a tray of people and then bags of icing. And the plus side is that they are soft cookies and GOOD! This has become our new tradition since. I did a layout about it and the "secret" recipe!
Then we have also started the Elf on the Shelf tradition as just something silly for us to do. We might not do it everyday, but Penny the Elf was found randomly around the house this past December!
And I cannot forget the dogs in this post! We try to take them for Christmas pictures every year. Sometimes it works and well, sometimes it doesn't! Here is last year's Christmas card photo that was taken by April Turner of UTurn Studios. I turned it into a layout. (If you want to know more about them, head over to my blog! They are the stars of the show over there on layouts!)
And one last thing I have been doing over the past few years is donating a holiday themed item to a children's hospital auction. One year was a banner and this year is going to be this canvas. It is just a way for me to give a little back and clean out some of my altered projects that I do not have room for!
As you can see, sometimes traditions change, but that doesn't make them any less important than previous ones. I want to thank Debby for asking me to join in this holiday season! Blessings and Happy Holidays to all!

ReplyDeleteLoved reading about your holiday happenings, Katrina!
ReplyDeleteOnce when I was a teenager, my pie crust kept splitting and my mother said the pie would fall completely apart. But we baked it anyway. To her surprise, it turned out perfectly, crust did not have a crack. She never could figure that out. She passed a week before Christmas. I know how lonely holidays can be. Be sure to surround yourself with friends.
