Beth Williams for the Handyman Holiday Hop. Merry Christmas!

I have wanted to try altering a brush for quite some time.  This hop was a perfect motivation and I wanted to make something pretty.  4 grandsons and 5 animals just don't make for much pretty around my house.  I also wanted to use things in my stash I tend to forget.  I've had the Noel 25 die for 5 years and this is the first time I've used it-shameful.

Hope you enjoy my little creative journey.

Step 1:  I applied white gesso to my brushes.  I did 2 in case I messed up 1.  The handles were glossy.  It would have worked better had I sanded them first.

Step 2:  I painted the handle gold with a Tim Holtz dauber and gessoed the brush because I like the effect.

Step 3.  I coated the handle with the clear crackle then painted with Martha Stewart white linen acrylic paint.  Should have figured how I was going to dry it before I painted both sides!  I came up with the holding the brush part in my mouth!

Step 4.  I added 2 kraft doilies to the handle to give me a bigger base to work on.

Step 5.  Other than the brushes, I promised myself I would not buy anything additional.  Got out my stash and started layering.  Took me 5 hours to get it how I liked it.  Hard to see the acrylic layer is an old Bo Bunny.  Flowers and gold leaves - Petaloo I won 5 years ago!  Metal embellishments are Tim Holtz Christmas idea-ology.  I used a Tim die to cut the Noel 25.

My favorite part:  Whenever my spirit is at its lowest, it seems the universe sends me a red hawk feather.  I've had this one for 25 years.  Last summer a dear Fiskasister [crafers once part of the movement called "Fiskateers."] sent me several large, beautiful ones just when I needed them.  This is going to be her Christmas present.  I sprayed the feather with hairspray, sprinkled glitter by hand, the more hairspray to keep the glitter on.
