What's In Your Inbox?

Over the last week or two I started going through my emails to narrow down the number of newsletters I receive.  I was getting between 10 to 15 a day.  There was no way for me to keep up.  Granted some of them were non-crafty related.

As I've been receiving newsletters I've been reviewing them to keep or not keep based on information that is helpful to me and inspiration.  I'm still working on the project as each newsletter is received.

One newsletter I've kept is from Debbie Hodges at Get It ScrappedDebbie's website, blog, and the Masterful Scrapbook Design is full of inspiration, classes, and the instructions are so easy to read.  The latest newsletter is a taste of the current Masterful Scrapbook Design and even gives you a mini-lesson from this month's seminars "lessons [that] explore both the composition and content of your writings as well as ways to incorporate your journaling into your overall page design."

From the newsletter I created this layout of my granddaughter and her "lost tooth."  It is about using your journaling for balance on your scrapbook layouts.  The original design is from “Sweet” by Dina Wakley from Masterful Scrapbook Design October 2010.

I learned how to scrapbook by doing layouts that was from other scrapbookers.  CK, Making Memories, and Scrapbook Etc. were my first teachers and then my friends that I would crop with every Friday night.  When I saw this layout it was a style that I've been wanting to try .  So I fell back into my "old" learning mode and lifted Diana's layout.

My favorite parts/techniques of my layout is of course learning about balance.  I didn't quiet get the journaling perfect, but I learned better what to do next time.

I totally loved using Tattered Angel's Glimmer Mist on white tissue paper.  I had learned to use the glimmer mist on crepe paper while doing their make-n-take at the summer CHA.  I used the same idea for using the tissue.  I should have made my tissue a bit wider it would have been better for this layout. Diana's layout was very motivating in using this technique.

I loved doing the hand stitching down the center of the punched (Fiskars) strip.  It really added to the effect of the whole page.

Debbie Hodges newsletter is well worth your inbox for inspiration and instruction.  Better yet subscribe to their seminars at Masterful Scrapbook Designs.
