Is Simple Best?

I think simple is best sometimes.  I love my scrappy art and have no plans to abandon it.  This weekend I've been busy with my son home from college, my reorganization of my storage areas of my house, and helping my daughter with Little Honey's upcoming birthday.  So I thought this week I would create a few simple layouts.

As I've been going through EVERYTHING in my house in order to clear out my 2nd scrapbook room to make room for Vanessa and Adam"s baby, I have found more old photos I had forgotten about.  Now I have these short stack of photos all over my computer desk that I'm excited about scrapping.

At one point in my life I was in full time ministry.  I predominately worked with children and training adults to work with children.  After graduate school I started working with college students.

I grew up in Germany.  My dad was Air Force and we lived their through two tours of duty while I was a child.
Me in front of the Berlin Wall
Now let's pull the last two paragraphs together.  It has been my dream to go "home" since we moved back stateside.  Honestly, I thought everyone was a bit weird and I was ready to go "home."  I had the opportunity the spring after the Berlin Wall fell.  It was 1990.  I was invited to participate in a  ten day street outreach for several German churches.  I was currently in undergraduate college preparing myself for even more ministry opportunities.  This was perfect.

As I was clearing out the closet I ran across my old journal from my mission trip.  It was so much fun to reread of my adventures.  With "found" photos and "found" journal I put it together in a simple layout.

The journaling is straight from a hastily written journal and certainly not an academic treaty of my time in Germany.

The pattern paper is from my old stash.  This is from Junkitz called Basic Paperz from 2005.  You can still buy this paper.  Give it a Google.

The collage at the bottom is from Prima, Graphic 45, and Tim Holtz.

This might look simple, but lining up these photos was very hard.  If you have any tips for next time please let me know.

It's Birthday Week!
It has been nearly a year since Little Honey was born.  Can you believe how quickly the year has gone?  I'm celebrating with LH this week by giving her tiny, some simply practical, gift each day.  I'll share with you Wednesday how Monday and Tuesday celebration goes.

  1. I like to revisit my journal from my days in London (haven't scrapped about it yet though). It's like trip down memory lane, isn't it? I love how you blocked out your page and the black background really makes the photos pop. Happy birthday to your little honey too!

  4. My husband is from Germany and I love looking through his mothers old pictures. Her father worked as a scientist for Hitler and there are some amazing photos in her boxes and even an old notebook full of scientific 'stuff'. She tells me all kinds of stuff about growing up there.
Its so nice that you got that scrapped.
