The Story, The Layout, What I Learned!

Image
I'm sitting here in front of the computer waiting for my first cup of coffee of the day to finish brewing thinking "Coffee cures all that ales you!"  LOL

After the New Year e-newsletter clean up from my mail box I'm being inspired by the newsletters I still get and the ones I've subscribed to since.  I've been receiving Nat Kalbach's Scrapbook Trends from the beginning and it never fails to inspire me.  March's newsletter has a very wild and wonderful layout created from Nat's own paperline eMOTions.  The layout that Heidi Kelley created had so many elements and an awesome photo arrangement.  Well, it was time to try.

The Story
Make no mistake these photo were staged.  Jacob had a project at school I believe for his Spanish class.  He had to have pictures of himself around the house "doing."  I did not have any recent photos of him doing the things he does around the house as a typical Senior in High School.  So we staged them.  (1)  J…

As part of my learning curve and stretching my scrapbooking I decided to use pre-made die cuts.  Usually I don't.  Yes, I do have a Circut Imagine but I've used it predominately on projects and not on layouts.  I prefer to make my own.  For me it is more satisfying.  Now just because I don't use them doesn't mean I don't buy them.  LOL  They look wonderful with the matchi…

Before I tell you my story and share my layout I wanted to remind you that next week will be the Copic giveaways here on Debby's Dare.  First giveaway is Monday, then there will be two more, Wednesday and Friday.

Mark your calendar to check out HSN for Epiphany Crafts.  The show is this Monday, March 21st, 7:00am and 4:00pm Eastern Time!  Check here for Epiphany Crafts products.  When my design team products arrive I'll be doing a few Debby's Dare Demo/Projects.  This would be a great time to pick up your tools and supplies and follow along with me.

The Story
The minute I saw these photos I knew I wanted to create a layout that was special.  My daughter found this very cute, soft, unusual bear hat on Etsy.  She purchased it before Little Honey was even born.  The hat was designed for newborns, but LH will get a couple of months out of it.  With that cute face and exquisite hat how can you resist photos.  These were taken with the iPhone.

I Think I Have Crafty Spring Fever!

Image
Really!  The weather here is wonderful.  Peach trees in bloom.  Sun is shining.  The wind beckons a new kite.  It's beautiful.

Often my inspiration comes from what is around me.  With the sights, sounds, and feel of Spring I went looking through Dad's photo albums for a Spring photo.

The Story
Since I lost my Dad I often go through the albums from the point of view that I miss Dad and want photos of him or of me and Dad.  My beautiful mom is overlooked from time to time when I'm going through the albums.  That's something that is being corrected!

I ran across this photo.  It was drab and grey-ish.  I put my Photoshop Elements to work and I was able to brighten up the colors, especially on my Mom's dress.  On the bottom of the original photo my dad wrote:  "Mickie Easter 1960."  I looked up what date Easter was on in 1960.  It was April 17th.

I was born the previous September and my mom looks totally fabulous.  Then Mom always looks fabulous.

Daddy's Old Photos

Image
Before the story and layout I want to ask you to pray for all those in Japan.  Please pray for the Japanese and the international community that live there also for the aid workers.  In my lifetime I do not remember such an event that was as destructive and heart wrenching.

Isaiah 54:10 'Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you WILL NOT BE SHAKEN nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord who has compassion on you.'

Thanks

The Story
I love going through my dad's old photos.  I'm privileged to have so many photos of Dad in the service, of our extended family, of mom and dad when they were so young, and of me from the time I was only a few days old.

These photos are among my favorite that Dad took of me.  We were living in Berlin, Germany at the time.  I just love the look of the little outfit along with my favorite accessory...my hat!  By the way, I wasn't camera shy!

Glue Dots® Adhesives: I Just Couldn't Wait! (Winner)

Image
I just couldn't wait to post this cute Easter/Spring project.  If you haven't noticed yet I'm in love with Graphic 45's Once Upon A Springtime paper line.  I think it's because of the new granddaughter.  It just lends itself to a magical world of new beginnings.

Easter Cone
Every year I give my grandchildren a basket of goodies for Easter. Since one of my granddaughters is getting a bit older I thought I would make something a bit more mature for her “basket.”

Glue Dots® Adhesives Used in this Project:
Macro
Craft
Continuous Line

Print or trace the pattern, cut, and assemble the cone by using Glue Dots® Adhesives Continuous Line.
Punch a border strip of 12 inches. I used Fiskars Spring Border Punch Butterfly. Ink the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink Vintage. With the border flat on the table, adhere a line of Glue Dots® Adhesives Continuous Line. Starting at the back of the cone adhere the strip around the top cutting off any excess. Do the same with your favorite…

Fix 'er Up with Glue Dots® Adhesives...RAK/Giveaway

Image
Glue Dots® Adhesives are so versatile.  I predominately craft with my Glue Dots, but I've been checking out the "power of the dot" with other projects around my house.

Fix 'er Up One

This is more like a project, but I used Glue Dots® Adhesives because I was frustrated with trying to do what the local framer had told me.

Tabitha's mother-in-law gave her the silverware David used as a baby.  Tabitha wanted to frame them in a shadow box for Little Honey's room.  The framer told us to use a clear type thread and sew a loop around the next of the fork, knife, and spoon.

I was frustrated with trying to make it look right.  So I pulled out my Glue Dots® Adhesives Craft.  Placed a one Dot at the top and one on the bottom of the silverware.  Placed it on the back ground of the shadow box.  Gave the piece a good shaking to make sure it wasn't coming off.  Presto!  Now I'm into making shadow boxes!

Fix 'er Up Two

I have this beautiful photo of my grandmother…

Little Honey's First Scrapbook Layout and Winner

Image
I'm in love.  Our beautiful granddaughterhas arrived.  It was a blessing to be there when they brought her from the delivery room to the "clean 'em up" room.  I watched her weighed, measured, toasted (LOL), and scream.  She has a healthy set of lungs and knows how to use them.  It was all wonderful.  The highlight of it all was seeing Little Honey in her mother and father's arms.  The look on their face was priceless.

I could hardly wait until I could create her first layout.

The Story
Once the nurse washed Little Honey, she fixed her hair in a curl on top of her head.  A friend calls it a mohawk.  Tabitha and I, and now LH all had our hair fixed that was by a nurse in the hospital where we were born.

The Layout

What I Learned
Graphic 45's Springtime paper line is perfect for new little babies.  Hampton Arts Graphic 45 line of stamps are top notch quality as well as beautiful.  I'm looking for the stamps with the fairies right now.I love to cut out details.  …

Quickie Update and Giveaway Update

We have a baby...a beautiful baby girl. If I total up all my photos I probably have close to 100.  Shh, don't tell my daughter.  LOL  Mom and baby are fine.  David is in totally love with his girls.  Grandma and Grandpa could not be more in love with the newest addition to our family.  It's fun to see my husband smile and beam when he looks at Little Honey.

I wanted to let you know the giveaway  here on Debby's Dare is still open until Sunday midnight. I'll post the winner on Monday's blog post. Life has been VERY busy and my house and husband need my attention for the next few days. I'm sure I can add another Fiska-tool for having to wait!! Remember to send your friends to leave a comment on the Giveaway Post for even more chances to win.

Have a crafty weekend!
