Friday's Trip to Charleston

Image
My mother and I had a wonderful time in Charleston this past Friday. We visited the Boone Plantation. There is a significant amount of history attached to this plantation, the saddest you will see are the slave quarters. There was some fun recent history. If you saw the mini-series North and South with Patrick Swazye...this is Ore's house. You can see the long entry way and just imagine him galloping home after the war. That was exciting. The trees there are the oldest in Charleston. The original land and house was deeded to James Boone during the time of King Charles of England. His grandson was to become South Carolina's first Governor. The plantation has produced through the years cotton, indigo, pecans, and bricks. At one point they had 6,300 acres mostly planted with pecan trees. Unreal. A few are still standing today.Although I'm not getting the work (scrapbooking) done that I need to, I'm counting these trips and events as a time to stock up on phot…

An Actual Layout LOL

Image
I have not been able to post my work lately due to submitting or it's Design Team work. Several friends had gotten a hold of me and fussed a bit. So I'm posting a layout and giving you a link to a wonderful layout that is in a contest at Two Peas in a Bucket.

Please cross your fingers (toes too) and say a prayer. I would love to win in order to have this published for my mother. She is the subject of my layout. I don't' know if we are allowed to ask God for things like that, but I'll ask any way and let Him make the decision. LOL
This is a layout in response to a Fiskateer Challenge by Cheryl Waters. This is a photo of ME with my cute pull along pup. I still pull my pup along when we go for our morning walk!

My ingredients:
Graphic 45
Technique Tuesday Tile
Wendy Vecchi's Studio 490 Stamps (I'm in love folks)

Strange Friends My fiska-friend Rita W. (a great and wonderful talent...check out her blog) tagged me! I love these things.
The challenge is to list 6 random facts about myself and/or or 7 strange things about about myself. I will tag 6 others and you have a choice to list either 6 random facts about yourself, or 7 strange things about yourself. Can’t combine though –as it makes it too easy. (LOL) Six Random Facts About Me: 1. I've traveled the world 2. I hold an Associates Degree in Business, a Bachelors Degree in Ministry, and a Masters Degree in Christian Education. 3. I made my first scrapbook when I was nine years old living in Weisbaden, Germany. 4. My-to-be husband and I met in Biology Class our senior year of High School. 5. I was born in Texas! 6. I will only wear Haynes ankle socks! 7 Strange Things About Me: (LOL I think my friends and family could do this one better than I could) 1. I hate my kitchen...I don't like to cook or clean the kitchen. Thank goodness for a hubby t…

A Few Scrap Happenings

Go to Ali Edward's blog for a wonderful list of F&Q's. They are awesome and extremely helpful. You really don't want to miss this one.

I'm featured on "dot talk" as on the dot's designer. It's very exciting for me and my family. If you haven't checked it out, please do and leave a comment. Thanks a ton.

unKit will be revealing their September unKit. It is wonderful and very dear to my heart.

One of my favorite companies is going out of business. It's very sad. Daisy D's is closing their doors. My first State Fair win was with Daisy D's paper line. It matched my granddaughters dress exactly and made a beautiful layout. If you love your Daisy D's stock up while you can. See the Design Team's Gallery. It will blow you away.

There is a design team call on Faith Sisters. This is an awesome,…

Wow, What a Weekend!!!

Image
I am overwhelmed with gratitude and thankfulness for this past weekend. I attended the Charlotte Creating Keepsakes Convention. I did volunteer work for CKC at the Registration Desk. I saw so many people I knew and it was great. I also worked for Eyelet Outlet. My main job was demonstrating the Quicklets. They are a cool little eyelet that you can set with a pen. It was fun. I saw friends from NC and SC as well as Fiskateers (Hi Angie, Kim, Veronica, Mary...of course Sudie) and I saw some Peas from Two Peas in a Bucket (Hi Selena and Lisa!!). (Sweet Glenna)
I have to tell you that Sudie worked for Quick Quotes and they were kind and generous to Me as well as our Sudie. Andrew, Stacy, and Michelle were out of this world. Michelle is one of my all time favorite teachers. Andrew and Stacy both talked with me and was generally very kind and wonderful. I can't wait to work on the kits I purchased and show you their wonderful work.

I had several highlights from the weekend.

With everything being so busy around here with coming home from CHA, teaching, demo-ing, getting ready for a Florida trip to do some Fiskars Certified Demonstrators Training, enjoying my mother on her vacation here with me, and getting ready to run out the door tomorrow morning with Sudie to CKC in Charlotte...I haven't had time to Blog like I should. Sorry guys.

I've asked a very special person to me and has been a big influence on my creativity through the years. I'd like to introduce you to Mikki, my mother.
Mom is one of the most creative people I know. She can quilt, crochet, knit, embroidery, decorate cakes, cook...or can she cook, sew, upholstery, paint on and on. So I've asked Mom to write about her trip to Charleston from Monday and Tuesday. This was her first trip to Charleston and the first time she was able to put her foot in the Atlantic Ocean. The photos of her are great. Sit back and enjoy my Mom! Charleston WonderlandMy granddaughter, Tabitha, gave me the…

on the dot

Image
I'm very excited to let my friends know that I am now officially designing for "on the dot." This is an absolute fabulous manufacture and Rebecca Lemmon is so very sweet. Their paper line is extraordinary. I just received a few lines this past Friday and I can't wait to start cutting and creating. Here is a scan of part of paper (not the whole sheet). This gives you a closeup look at this fabulous paper. This is part of the lemonade & blue jeans - raspberry lemonade and stars and strips forever collection. I wanted you to see the distressed part of the paper. This is a good weight cardstock and the colors are wonderful. I will be posting throughout August and September close ups of the paper and a few projects! Go to on the dot and look at the yet to be released Autumn collection. Wow, does not cover it. I'm so very excited about my new design job with on the dot and working with Rebecca. Please know I'll be giving a few RAKs away along the way of my new …

I've Got a Secret

Well, I'm going to have to hang onto it a little while longer....but not too long!

In the meantime this is what is up in my world. My mother is visiting from Florida. We are really having a nice time. The heat is horrible right now so going outside is not only "yucky," it is not very safe. Today at 6 o'clock it was still 105 degrees F.

Here are a few photos to share that I've taken since Mom has been here.

Sunday...Mom and her favorite first Granddaughter! Mom at a home that is well over 200 years old. Isn't the Spanish Moss beautiful! But leave it on the trees folks...its full of little bugs.Today at the State House. Well over the 100 degree mark and she takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'! LOLJust a nice photo opportunity!ScrapHappenings:Did you catch Sudie and UnKit on Ustream Monday night? No? Well, you can catch her every Monday night at 9:30 pm EST.
